Greece has wonderful "secrets", such as its beautiful and picturesque villages that enchant visitors with their magnificent scenery. Like they came from a fairy tale, as soon as you see them you wonder if they are really true.
Three of them are described below and are destinations that are definitely unique and deserve a worthy place on every traveler's agenda and heart.
Nymfaio
Nymfaio is considered one of the most beautiful villages not only in Greece, but also in Europe, according to most travel guides.
The jewel of Florina is located in the eastern part of Mount Vitsi and is situated at an altitude of about 1,350 meters. It has a distance of 57 km from the capital of the prefecture and it's a traditional settlement with the perfect architecture and the wonderful alpine landscape around it.
Stone houses, impressive villas - remnants of the glorious period between the 18th and the beginning of the 20th century - and cobbled alleys form a unique backdrop.In winter, when the white veil of snow covers everything, the landscape looks truly dreamlike.
Syrrako
It is located at a distance of about 54 km from Ioannina on a slope of Mount Lakmos, at an altitude of 1,150 meters.
The traditional settlement, which is a "diamond" for the folk Epirotan architecture, stands out in the choice of the public for the flowing waters, the paved roads, the stone bridges and houses that compose the beautiful environment that makes it look as if it came out of fairy tale pages.
The walk on the cobbled streets and the square with the centuries-old plane trees that cover the church of Agios Nikolaos with their shade, show the authentic beauty of the mainland to the travelers in the best way.
Vovousa
Vovousa is located in an amazing setting on the eastern side of Zagori and is a small and beautiful village at a distance of 77 km. from Ioannina and 60 km. from Grevena. Situated at an altitude of 1,000 meters, it is one of the "entrances" to the Valia Calda National Park and it is built on the two banks of the Aoos, which divides it into two parts.
One of the most characteristic points of the village is one of the most beautiful stone bridges, the bridge of Zagori, built in 1748 by Alexios Misios and recognized as a modern archeological monument. It is located in the middle of the village and connects the two banks and districts of Vovousa. The church of Agios Georgios, which dates back to 1814, is also worth seeing here.
