New lighting for all of Athens' major monuments was completed in the Greek capital on Tuesday evening, including the Temple of Hephaestus and the Monument of Philopappos.

The Hellenic Ministry for Culture and Sports announced the completion of the lighting redesign, which was carried out by the Onassis Foundation and the Ministry of Culture and Sports. According to the Ministry, the two monuments are now illuminated with the same philosophy and technology that was previously used on the Acropolis.

In addition to the new aesthetics, the existing technical infrastructure of the monuments, in terms of lighting, has also been improved. This saves energy, reduces maintenance costs and avoids light pollution.

Highly efficient LED floodlights were used in all areas, which, according to the Ministry, offer great flexibility in creating different lighting designs depending on the location and the sight.

The Temple of Hephaestus, dedicated to the god Hephaestus and Athena Ergani, better known as "Thissio", is located on the hill of Agios Kolonos, on the west side of the Ancient Agora in Athens and the Monument of Philopappos, named after Gaius Julius of Antiochus Epiphanes Philopappos, is located on the Hill of the Muses, southwest of the Acropolis.
