The Magical Path of Panagia in Achaia

Many may not trust the paths so much because it is not known where they lead, but there are some exceptions.

The Path of Panagia (Virgin Mary) at the beach of Drepano in Achaia leads us to dreamlike scenes. Drepano is 12 km from Patras, and there is a lighthouse built in 1880, which is about 10 meters high.

From that lighthouse, there is a small peninsula which flows into the sea and is called "the Path of Panagia".

According to the legends, this strip of land and the nearby village got their name when an old woman went to a boat owner and asked him to take her to Roumeli.

He refused, and then the old woman took sand and gravel in her apron, threw it into the sea and built a path.

The boat owner, who saw the miracle, realized that the old woman was Virgin Mary and asked her to get into his boat to take her to her destination.

Then she threw the remaining stones all together into the sea, and at that point, a drill-like ground formed.

This is how the nearby village Drepano got its name.
