The investment of 165 million euros made in Skorpios: the legendary island of Onassis
Scorpio is a small Ionian island. It is located west of Lefkada, on the slopes of the southern mouth of the gulf of Alexander.
As read on Joint Ministerial Decision from the Ministries of Development & Investment, Environment & Energy, Shipping & Island Policy and Tourism, a luxury tourist resort is to be built in Scorpio, with a farm, an amphitheater and even a helipad.
This is an investment project ('construction and operation of a luxury tourist unit') implemented exclusively with private funds and concerns the creation of a modern luxury tourist infrastructure on an area of 161 hectares on the island of Scorpios.
The investment includes, among others, the main tourism complex, a multi-purpose center and sports facilities, a farm, an amphitheater, a helipad and the expansion of port facilities. The project has a budget of €165 million and is expected to create at least 130 new jobs during its operation.
"The Ministry of Development and Investment has proceeded with extremely fast procedures to approve the location of the investment plan for Scorpio. A project of emblematic importance that has been in the papers for a long time and is now moving forward to bring jobs and added value to Greece. We fully support this investment and are eagerly waiting for it to be implemented and enjoyed by the Greek people ", said the Minister of Development and Investment, Adonis Georgiadis.
"This major tourist investment on the island of Scorpio is an ambitious project with respect for the environment. A strategic investment that will transform the island into a leisure destination and create new jobs both during construction and operation. The State remains a helper in the investments that contribute most to the development perspective of the region and the country as a whole ", said the Deputy Minister of Development and Investment, Mr. Nikos Papathanasis.
