Yeni Şafak: The demilitarization of the Greek islands will be a priority in the forthcoming discussions

The pro-government Turkish newspaper Yeni Şafak continues to promote the Turkish narrative not only about the demilitarization of the Aegean islands, but also that this issue will be included in the forthcoming dialogue with Greece, something that Athens has categorically rejected.

“After the annulment of the Charter of Seville, Greek soldiers will be forced to leave the islands” an article in the online edition of Yeni Şafak claims, according to which Greece after the withdrawal of the EEZ right to the islands, which of course is not the case, accepted the German… exhortations for demilitarization of the islands and that this issue will be put on the table for discussion.

Yeni Şafak states: “Greece with the agreement that made with Egypt changed its opinion on the positions of the EEZ of the islands and whose maximalist map of Seville is now considered invalid by the movements of Turkey, now insists on not removing of the army from the islands. But this attitude, which is a violation of the Lausanne and Paris treaties, Greece finds it difficult to justify to the international public opinion. Greece accepted the first call for the evacuation of the demilitarized islands from Germany, while among the priorities of Turkey is the wounding of the Greek military movements on these islands. In the contacts that will be made between the two countries, the priority will be the demilitarization of the islands with Kastellorizo being first.”
